All the struggles and anxiety, the loneliness,
Surrounding my life like an army.
My mind, this fortress begins to crumble
And suicide comes, hey, let’s gamble.
How do I gain my sadness freedom?
There is an offer on the table for me.
Suicide invites me into its kingdom,
Well, is this the best way I can flee.
My friends and family, where are you,
I’m drowning, my life jackets are few.
How do I escape my thoughts,
Suicide has some empty slots.
But my life is a gem, precious,
Priceless even for death’s offer.
I need help to change my state
Without accepting a suicide fate.
I need my bible and family, a safety vent,
My escape from suicide and its predicament.
So I won’t take my life, no I must not.
A disturbing number of Veterans take their own lives in the U.S. On average, approximately 7,300 Veterans die from suicide each year. Despite significant efforts and billions of dollars invested by the state and federal governments across the nation, suicide rates among Veterans rose 26 percent from 2005 to 2016. In Florida alone, nearly 600 Veterans die from suicide each year at a rate slightly higher than the national average.

Wow!!!! This just made me sad💔.
I had never really seen suicide in statistics and these numbers are too heartbreaking to ignore the fact that many people we see around need serious help. Those in authority at the armed forces ought to make mental health an issue of priority to aid in reducing these numbers because it’s so shocking how the numbers keep rising. I stand in prayer for people with suicidal thoughts 🙏.
Let’s all help in our very small way so that those around us who need help get it and avoid suicidal outcomes.

It does make me wonder. Veterans are bullied all through basic training. Spirits are broken. Mental health is challenged when one is forced to do things that do not align with one’s values. Ugh. So sad.

I sincerely hope that more people in authority at the military push the agenda of mental health awareness ’cause it’s saddening and a major issue as well in the military that cannot remain ignored.
Thanks for showing concern Sheila💚
We should all help to reduce the suicide numbers.

Yes, I have always wondered why those in authority don’t care more. And then people call me a conspiracy theorist. 🤦♀️

I like how you end the conflict so positively, which together with the conflict and poetic rhythm, makes this an exquisite piece of poetry!! 🙂

I’m glad you appreciate the poem.
It’s good that we remain positive with individuals struggling with suicidal thoughts as it mostly emanates from the conflicts they feel within.
Thanks a lot for your feedback. I really appreciate it💚💚

I have currently volunteered for a foundation (brotar foundation) interested in mental welfare and it feels good to give someone hope. There is hope for everyone. Suicide can never be an answer. Lovely poem.

It’s so very kind and thoughtful of you to volunteer for such an advocated and important cause. Bridget, keep giving hope to as many people as you can. Suicide should never be an option. Indeed there is hope for everyone.
Glad you appreciate my poem as well💚💚

No, don’t take your life! It’s not the answer! I still have suicidal thoughts sometimes too, but these thoughts are our enemy. Trust me, you’re not alone in the struggle, but I firmly believe we can beat it for good by the grace of God.

Such kind and hopeful words. Thank you.
I also truly believe that God’s grace and healing word (the bible) can help rid this feeling of suicide.💚💚

You have to actively fight for it. Lean into your fears and whatever feelings are making you feel suicidal and come exactly as you are to the Lord and tell Him how you’re feeling. He will lift them off you.
