Beauty and the Beast [picture poetry]

Kindly share your interpretation or thoughts on this simple I wrote. You can share on what it entails and how it relates to real life or any event at all(perhaps a movie or some story you’ve heard)😊💚

Sigh, how could I have been this naive
I am the latest victim of this virgin thief.
Now I lay used in his bed sobbing in regret,
Knowing his next move is nothing but my neglect,
And though his face may defend him otherwise,
Do not fall victim for this real mirage.

I always knew I had fallen for a thief,
For he stole my heart like the books describe.
I fell for the man and I fell for the charm,
Unaware harm was a letter shy of charm,
Now I wish my heart was as this bed’s wood,
Harder to penetrate and not just by words.

I fell for his perfect words and its magic,
And like a girl in love I quivered to his touch.
He was the kind of man my dreams would seek,
And his attitude was nothing if not unique.
So behold he had brought down my guards,
My mind, heart and body, they became his.

He played a long game that led to his bed
As he was a player hunting the queen, his chess.
So while I saw him a blessing he was my curse,
And as I knew him the more I knew him less,
Though I did not succumb the first time,
My story now shows that I eventually did.

He saw me like he does his chest tattoo,
Nice and beautiful, but nothing permanent.
But for my young self he was my paradise,
As this happened to be my first time in love.
I thought I had rolled six with the love dice,
But it was all a disguised blessing in disguise.

My revelation came from the ding of a phone text,
As the cat in me wanted to die and curiosity obliged.
But my spirit died, my soul fled, my body paralysed,
As thoughts of mine like these curtains became grey;
Finding I was the subject of a perverted dare
Love is blind was the only thing I thought clear.

In an instant my world turned pitch black,
With the bedside light trying to console me.
My feelings for this man were his console,
As he used them to play me quite well.
My anger began digging deeper than a well,
Only to bury the ‘not’ in thou shall not kill.

So as I wrapped the blanket around my body,
He lay there a conqueror, with a wrap on his dare.
He woke up and confessed but I am no priest
And my rage was let out too ready to feast.
I murdered him, the image above is incomplete,
As I stood over his body, “beauty and the beast?”

For me I think sometimes people prey on other people’s innocent feelings of love simply to get the chance to lay with them. In this case it was something as trivial as a dare. All that trouble. Perhaps the relationship could’ve proceeded smoothly per real mutual love but… The very fact that you’d manipulate someone just to fulfil a dare seems like an emotional violation of trust and love. This is why some people find it super hard to be vulnerable again with their genuine feelings for another person. And in this poem this was the girl’s first time in love so just imagine.

What are you guys thinking?

  1. One is so beautiful.
Two the words are just so beautifully lined up.

And the idea is so greatly captured and shared.
Mehn sometimes I wonder when love ended up as a game of chess with breaking hearts its meal.
    Love everything about it, Joey.
    Nice meeting you again!

    1. Thank you so much. You’re too kind, Abi💚
I’m glad you think so. So many people these days think it’s a game so everyone’s just playing the other person. Heartbreaks here and there and it causes so much emotional pain, even sometimes depression and rarely suicide. Damn it all!
If you love everything about it then surely I did something right😊
Nice hearing from you again as well!
      Enjoy your weekend!

I sense so many stories there.
Whoever those boys are it’s not a cool characteristic of them. It’s just plain immature I should say.

Glad you enjoyed the rhyming Joana.

    1. I know right. It’s such a common occurrence that you’re never too sure who’s doing genuine loving and who’s feigning it. It’s so tiring! Emotional manipulation is so sick.

Can’t even handle the stress anymore jorr. Thanks for sharing your thoughts friend💚

  4. My favorite line “But it was all a blessing in disguise”. That got me laughing 😆 😄.

Amazing poem that portrays human self-centeredness, pridefulness, manipulatetiveness, and lustful nature. Wanting what you want without thinking about the other.

Also, the gullible side of us that just goes with our emotions without the usage of logic. I can’t tell how many times I tried so hard to convince myself about something without grasping the full picture just because I thought I loved them and don’t want to miss my opportunity.

Love deserves honesty, and trust. Anything short of that should be examined and questioned.

Another epic and profound writing from you. Thanks for sharing, Joel. I enjoyed reading it.

    1. Yayy you got a favourite line😊
Love your sense of humour, Marie 😅😅

You’ve really explained the post even better than I could’ve. The lustful and manipulative part is what scares me the most. Because then we’re making honesty a rare integrity and being in a relationship becomes only for the sex. Which is too bad and scary💔

The gullibility aspect is real sad because then whoever it is becomes the victim of whatever devastation is to come. We’ve got to embrace logic even when we’re in love.
I understand you Marie. It happens to us all. We choose to blur out part of the whole picture. I only pray more people gain that realisation sooner than later when they enter relationships.

      Honesty and trust. The key!

Thank you so much for your kind appreciation. It’s means alot to me, really. Glad you enjoyed the read😊💚❤

  5. You’re more than welcome, Joel. The pleasure is mine as well 😊.

Amen 🙏 to your prayer. Love can be tricky, and that’s why we must be cautious as much as possible.

A better balance will be emotions plus logic. It is a hard one, but it is attainable to some extent in most cases.

Well done 👏 keep up the good work. Have a wonderful weekend.

    1. Alright, I couldn’t agree with you guys more. Absolutely love your discussion so let me add my thoughts right here 😊

Sure love should grow in discernment. Is not always about those overwhelming emotions, since that can literally blind us, though sometimes we seem to enjoy the blindness😄 but that shouldn’t be.

So yes, we ought to add logic and in this I got a scripture to support this in Philippians 1:9-10 KJV

[9] And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment (discernment).

[10] That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.

If we do that, we wouldn’t be at the mercy of others especially for the ladies, because we can approve those things which are excellent.

Awesome piece Joel, just love your style of writing, the rhymes alone 😊🕺🏻

      1. Glad you joined in on the discussion George. A pleasure

True true. Sometimes we allow ourselves to be overwhelmed by the emotions and say it’s love too. But love is right and pure and that should account for clear sight emotionally instead of us being blinded.

That’s such a befitting scripture for this discussion. It really emphasises the balance between emotions and logic when it comes to love. With that we’ll be saved from so many avoidable emotional ruins, some physical too.

Thank you for appreciating the poem. Glad you like the style and rhymes.
        Have a lovely day!😊💚

  6. Powerful and descriptive words Joel that are so heartfelt and sad dipicting deseption and selfish greed for ones own feather in their cap, Love such a beautiful thing turned to pain, hurt feelings, shame and killing of the heart. Well done. Nice job! ❤️ Cindy

    1. Thank you so much, Cindy!
It’s very common to encounter deception in modern relationships. It’s making trust such a faded attribute that you never know what to expect with some people.
Love is beautiful, truly. There are few who damage its beauty for others but fingers crossed everyone finds the right person.
      Thanks sharing your thoughts friend.

      1. You are so welcome Joel.
It reminds me a little bit the same way as the work force these days. There’s not the same kind of loyalty as we once had and people move on quickly to accommodate what’s best for them which isn’t all bad, just different.
In relationships it is sad that this is happening in and meaning and care at the very least are reduced down to deception. Life is different as we knew it in so many ways and with people living longer they are making different choices in life but being honest and respectful should at the very least. It’s a lot to navigate and I don’t envy your position. You’re welcome and Have a good Sunday as well. ❤️

        1. True talk true talk. Loyalty is of utmost essence. We just have to know who’s worth ours. Honesty and respect should be like the baseline for any relationship at all. It gives meaning to the relationship and really builds life long relations.

          ❤💚

  7. Powerful writing Joel about a scene, that is unfortunately played out a lot..but perhaps the ending…not as often. Much more often, the girl is left disillusioned for a lifetime, humiliated and traumatized. When real love comes around, she won’t even see it or believe it… How tragic and all this for a dare between two soulless guys, who were bored and cruel. There is no crueler beast that walks the world, than the one that walks inside a man who is capable of this!
Using your poetic narrative style, I’m sure you touched a nerve in all your readers. Very well done!

    1. Unfortunately it’s true how normal such scenarios are becoming in this age. The ending was simply hyperbolic😁 Being put in that situation can really redefine love and vulnerability for the victim for the worse. It hinders future possibilities of something real because of such an awful past experience, like you’ve said.
I hope I do touch some nerves. A goal to look forward to.

Thank you so much, Karima. Your appreciation means a lot to me.

You got the message, I like that. And it’s because of such situations that leave people building very thick emotional fences and being outright sceptical about love. It’s sad and yet in this era it’s a common happening.

      Thanks for stopping by friend!

  8. I think it most certainly runs in two directions! Neither way makes it okay! Best to be on guard and use that sixth sense. If something doesn’t seem right… it usually isn’t! But sometimes as they say you need to catch alot of buttetflies to find the one with wings that open for you. And that is a good thing for when they do, you know you’re home.

    Liked by 3 people

    1. That’s true. It can happen to both genders. For some people love really blinds that sixth sense you know. But we’ve got to be more alert in our pursuit of love so that it doesn’t overwhelm us into wrong relationships.
I appreciate you sharing your thoughts. Thanks for stopping by.

  10. An amazing take at a poem story. WOW its something out of box. The way you molded the story of a playboys and a innocent girl is simply profound. The ending the beauty and the beast…. You have left the reader on the edge grasping on what just happened. I enjoy reading your work. But this has to be my fav… Keep writing and look forward for many amazing work like these

It’s actually a way of bringing out different characteristics pertaining to how this issue relates to real life, and how everyone has their own take on it. So with the ending, the reader knows my stand, but now reviews the whole poem again trying to gain another perspective.
I’m so humbled and glad this is your fav. Your compliment and support is immensely appreciated 💚💚😊

It’s expected, for you to find it disturbing. Though I hope you lean towards the good side of its disturbing nature as there is a message in there as well. Do give it a reread… it would give you new perspectives and I’d like to know them if you’d want to share.

          1. The girl is the beauty and the guy is the beast. But with her killing the guy at the end and posing that question to herself one wonders if she could also be attributed the characteristic of a beast. Hence why I brought that ending and left it as a question. For the reader to give their own interpretation, perhaps with a reread 💚💚

    1. Hi there Cindy.
First of all, I’m really grateful and happy that you cared enough to check up on me. Thank you!
It’s just that I was in a really bad place last month. Still dealing with some stuff even. So I decided to stay away from any form of social media I have. Not so completely but technically, yes. Can’t really go into details but I’m trying my best, praying too, hoping things get better so that if possible I’ll continue writing here on WP again.

How about you. How’re you doing, Cindy? Hope you and your family are doing better. Again, thanks for reaching out. Much love true friend!❤💚❤💚❤💚

      1. Hi Joel! It’s soooo good to hear from you!!! With WP, you don’t always know about the glitches that happen. Thanks for letting me know as I have been thinking about you and was going to reach out again. I’m so sorry to hear that Joel! Sometimes it’s best to retreat and I hope that has been helpful for you. I think staying off FB and Instagram is probably good but WP is where your friends are Joel and we’re here for you. I’m too praying for you and happy for you to reachout to me independently from here if it’s helpful? I do hope you continue as your voice and heart matters here Joel.. You have a wonderful soul.
Thanks for asking about me. I’m doing well inspite of this crazy election with a dictator on our hands and praying for an outcome that serves humaanity instead of takes from it. My dog Harry is on his last legs which is really sad.
promise to take good care ok? !!!!!! all my love and light always,❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🤗 Cindy
